VISION

To be a teacher in academia and life, and live by the principles of “honesty, integrity and trustworthiness”

MISSION

  • To impart my academic, professional and life knowledge and experience to any person who is willing to share with and learn from me

  • To contribute actively and ethically to the development, strategic direction and quality output of any industry I am involved in

I started sharing my knowledge for more than 2 decades.

It was an ordinary sunny morning. I was writing programs in the balcony which was converted into a study. I was supposed to be concentrating, but my mind wandered off beyond cyber space.

I asked myself what would happen to all my knowledge and life experience stored in my white and grey matters. While my money and properties would pass on to some lucky people or organisations that yet to be decided, those intangible treasures would be outdated and buried 6-foot under when I kicked the bucket.

At that point in time, I decided to become a teacher. Teachers did not and do not rank well in pay, but that was a stepping stone to share my knowledge.

The good thing about sharing knowledge is that I still have 100% left to keep in my brain, even though the receivers had the same amount of what I was prepared to share.

My new "career" started with only 2 hours teaching at Eastern TAFE, but soon I was teaching in numerous Tafes and at a University. Eventually, my total combined teaching hours was more than a full time teacher, and the Teacher Union was not happy and restricted my teaching hours.

Years later, I offered free tuition to primary students with the intention to pass on my special learning techniques which could help students learn more effectively. These methods are non-main stream methods taught in school; I developed and tested on myself for years of schooling and working life. It was a scale down version of what I had passed on to some of my students in tertiary colleges.

I started writing during the Bulletin Board era, before Facebook and Google. Then I began to blog on several Google blog sites. When Facebook became popular, I jumped to it. I seldom use Facebook for casual chats.

It did not take long that I created many Facebook groups and pages, each for different pet subject. Via Google and Facebook, I am able to pass on my virtual “inheritance” to the public. I am glad that many strangers especially new migrants to Australia benefited from my blogs.

One afternoon as I walking pass a primary school close to where I live, I decided to approach walk in and offered my free service to help the young students. I am very grateful that the Principal, Assistant Principal, and some teachers give me the opportunity to help in their classes. As one teacher said to me when she saw some students greeted me excitedly as I walked pass them, "Sin Fong, you are like a rock star!"

A few months later, I was invited as a guest speaker at a new migrant training and networking session. Eventually I was approached to mentor migrant job seekers.

Although I have been a volunteer visiting residents at aged care homes since 1996, I only started giving Armhair Travel Presentation to the residents just about a decade ago. The objective is in fact congruent to my knowledge sharing. Many residents are unable to travel due to mobility or health problems, and my presentation cum story telling is like “bringing the outside world to inside”.

The lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic results in suspension of all my volunteering services. However, on the brighter note, this gives me more time to blog and eventually complete this ambitious undertaking of creating the most comprehensive website.

I may be a financial Scrooge, but I consider myself to be fairly "philanthropic" in sharing my wealth of knowledge and diverse life experience to strangers here and abroad.

Wikipedia and Khan Academy have greatly influence in my decision to put all my thoughts in blogs using Facebook and Google. I am truly indebted to these four organisations.

Education is my passion, and imparting and sharing what I have in my brain are my life goals!
